Murray-Darling Basin Small Block Irrigators Exit Grant package
An exit grant of up to $150,000 is available to eligible farmers who wish to leave irrigation. In addition, a grant of up to $20,000 is available for removal of permanent plantings and other production-related infrastructure and a grant of up to $10,000 is available for advice and training.
An irrigator may be eligible for the exit grant if:
on 20 September 2008, they owned up to 15 hectares of farm land;
or
if on 13 February 2009, they owned more than 15 hectares of farm land and up to 40 hectares of farm land;
and
- owned at least 10 megalitres of permanent entitlements to extract water from a watercourse that meet the criteria for the Restoring the Balance in the Murray-Darling Basin program; and
- are prepared to sell all of their permanent entitlements to extract water from a watercourse that meet the criteria for the Restoring the Balance in the Murray-Darling Basin program, and any acquired since that date, to the Commonwealth; and
- their property is located in the Murray-Darling Basin; and
- they are willing to remove all permanent plantings and on-farm irrigation infrastructure; and
- they are willing to give an undertaking that neither they nor their farm land will be involved in irrigated farming for at least five years.
